The US Women’s National Team defeated Italy 1-0 on Nov. 27 in Bridgeview, Ill., to advance to the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany 2-0 on aggregate. Amy Rodriguez scored the game’s only goal in the 40th minute to give the US the victory.
The US Women’s National Team defeated Costa Rica 4-0 to win Group B at the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying tournament. Abby Wambach nailed a first half penalty kick, upping her tournament total to six and her career total to 115, while Lauren Cheney, Yael Averbuch and Alex Morgan scored in the second half.
The US WNT opens the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying tournament against Haiti, but for the US players, the game has a bit more meaning. The players have brought cleats, clothes and other gear as gifts for their Haitian counterparts, whose country is still struggling to recover from the effects of the devastating earthquake.
