I am a huge soccer fan and when I was watching the 2010 World Cup, I noticed that USA came out very flat in the beginning of most games by either letting up a goal or almost being scored on. Also, in a recent game they almost let up a goal a few minutes into the game. Is there any reason they do this even though they have an overall good team?

People always judge the USA fans passion for the sport. In their defense, they’re nowhere near as passionate about it than other countries are. But in South Africa. the USA had a large number of fans go to the games. In the 1994 World Cup, it was hosted by the USA and it set records for highest attended WC ever and it had 12 less matches than the WC currently has. Right now, they’re tied for 13th with Serbia and that is a respectable ranking considering our athletes don’t grow up playing and aspiring to be soccer/football players. Why do people criticize USA soccer/football in general and their fans?

I am an alumni of there. While the rest of Michigan’s non-student/non-alumni fans might be howling, I bet the student body largely could care less. People there don’t really wear Michigan apparel around, and if they do, it’s usually because they’re athletes or students who don’t have as much money. It’s a weird place, and I got the impression no one really cared about the sports from my classmates. A few of my friends liked sports, but for the most part, I pretty much watched the games but never enjoyed them like I would watching Tigers, Lions or Pistons games in Detroit, where the fans genuinely get into the action, would make conversation, argue, so on and so forth.

For that reason, I’m sort of happy Michigan lost. All of UM is soul less, right down to the student body and the mercenaries they recruit for the football team. The fans are so cocky and snotty, they don’t deserve a football team they don’t appreciate.
I just didn’t feel the spirit on campus. Maybe on game day there are people who attend the game who walk around in apparel, but not during the school week!

I went to school there 4 years, I noticed that! Don’t tell me I’m wrong!
Wait wait wait, I’m talking about Ann Arbor people, not the whole state of Michigan.

They arent playing , they do nothing physicaly so i dont see why they cant , or dont . I thought we were over this sex sepperation , but apparently not. Women buy tickets to games and they cost just as much as mens tickets , they buy team apparel and that costs the same too. I just dont see why some sports must be all men every where or nothing. I believe the game is about skill , and by coaching it could be a women vs man or women etc , im not saying they should play but come on!

From the games at the world cup USA seems to have a massive amount of fans, is this evidence that football is getting more popular in america? Or is this just because USA has a big population and it is not popular at all? Also is football covered by the media well in the states? Thanks
